What is our Ranking system: The Junior Challenge Ladder is broken into three grip colors : Yellow (Introduction to match play), Green (Novice Tournament Players), and Orange (Satellite/Open Tournament Players). Each junior in our program is presently ranked by past results. All new juniors to program must begin at the bottom of the ladder and work their way up. Only the #1 position of the color group may challenge above to the next color division.
When can I play matches to move up the ladder: All grand prix matches will be applied to the ladder. The Junior Grand Prix Director for the day will arrange who plays whom during the Junior Grand Prix. There will also be some times during the week (Monday - Thursday 6:30 PM or later) and anytime after 11:30 AM on the weekends to challenge players above them. Availability is limited and subject to change with the demands of members. If the juniors are members themselves they will have the same priority to the courts as any other member. Non-members will be second in priority to members for these court times.
Who can I challenge: Any junior may challenge up to 3 spots above them. If the lower player wins he/she will switch positions with the higher ranked junior. You can play anyone anytime but for it to be a result that counts they may only be 3 spots higher. We encourage all players to play as many challenges as possible. Even if they do not count towards the ladder. There is no substitute for being on the match court.
How do I get started playing matches: You can call the player directly and set-up a time, each RIPper Training Academy member will be receiving a contact list of all students who have volunteered to have their number or e-mail be accessible to other RIPpers. You may also call the Jr. Dept and we will help set-up your challenge match (949 644-0050 x210).
No one will play with me: Players who are unable to or who deny a challenge request three times will lose their spot to the position of the challenging player.
Match Format: Ladder Challenge matches are two out of three sets with a 12 point tiebreaker at 6-6. In the event that the first two sets are split the third set is played out in full, unless both players agree to play 10 point match tiebreaker instead.
